It first started as simple tool for blogging, then e-commerce flourish as well.
The development of the ecosystem grew together with the development of the web. When globalization became a thing, and location challenges were no longer an issue, the internet became a tool and platform to do e-commerce. When people started buying and selling on the web, many new gaps had to be filled because of the need to do payments and logistics. And when money is involved – security threats grew into something that companies wanted to offer solutions to.

Many competitors came in because developers´ view of things it’s different to consumers´ view of things. Consumers just want great visual designs and basics needs fulfilled products. And WordPress was complex for everyday users.
